Today is a special day. A day that had to be created to accomodate and make our calendars work. Some might find it an odd day, but I love the fact that FEBRUARY 29th actually exists. It only shows up 25% of the time, but if we totally took it out of the calendaring system, as Wikipedia explains "in future years the seasons would occur later in the calendar, eventually leading to confusion about when to undertake activities dependent on weather, ecology, or hours of daylight."
I have a friend who was born on a February 29th. Although an adult, we still joke about her being a fourth of her age. I´m grateful for the wisdom of people who were able to figure out the days to work this out for everyone. I´m glad for a life of rhythms, cycles, wisdom, predicability, uncertainty.
So, greetings to February 29th.
